Good luck? No, Break a leg!

Q.How did you feel Django has been selected as the opening film of The 13th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival. what were you doing when you heard this news?

A.I was trekking in the south of France and I received an e-mail on my mobile phone. What a good surprise and a good news from south Korea. I always prefer south than north J

Q.Before, you only worked on scenarios or as a producer for the films. This is the first film you directed on and it has earned  favorable reviews from various film festivals. Were there any difficulties working on the film?

A.The most difficult thing for me was the decision to direct the film (after all those years producing and writing). It was very exciting but I was also a little bit frightened to make a period and musical film as a directorial debut.

Q.This film is about an actually existing person with a historical background. Before you started writing the scenario for this movie, from what did you derive inspiration? What was the trigger for you to select Django Reinhardt?

A.Music is something Ive always loved! But what interested me in his life was this war period when jazz music was so popular but also monitor and forbidden by Nazi propaganda Django Reinhardt was just at the middle of this dilemma. His music became a kind of resistance.

Q.Since this is the life story of Django Reinhardt , a jazz musician, a lot of jazz music was inserted in the movie. What is your favorite piece of music in the movie?

A.Manoir de mes rèves” “Blues mineur and Nuages are my favorites titles in this movies but I have many others which were unfortunately not include because they were not composed or played by Django at this time.

Q.The last scene still lingers in my mind. Please tell me what the title of the music is that was inserted in the last scene.

A.Its the Requiem composed by Django Reinhardt just after the war for his Gypsies brothers. It is the only symphonic piece he made Unfortunately just few parts remains because the partition has been lost.

Q.Lastly, will you please say welcoming words to the audience who came to enjoy Jecheon International Music & Film Festival?

A.Films and music are very close friends since a long time ago! I love the idea of a festival mixing them together and Im proud that my film and Djangos music are making the opening together.
